Dark Sanctuary “Les mémoires blessés”

La désolation de l’âme ou nous sommes perdue…
Lost we are for there’s nothing but ashes in our memories… A torrent of tears and sighs covers the whispering dreams that faded with Father Time and grasped our hopes only to let us fall empty handed… Yesterdays are gone and today we’re sickened… There’s no tomorrows for a feeble light…
As we enter the palled grey landscapes, where Dark Sanctuary paints the sorrow of all that once have cried, we are left weakened and it seems that if we sleep, we will never wake up… Thus is the veiling stupor where we are left in… An enchanted mirage of what lays beyond our opened eyes…
Staring from beyond a shadowed panorama since 1996, this hypnotizing outfit, that calls their Art “Dark Atmospheric”, have created such saddened and weakened wounds that enter our ears with such a passion that one feels we have re-entered the womb where paradise was felt… As we were born, all our innocence was left behind… our cries serving as a lament for all that we left as forgotten reminiscences… Nevertheless, succumbed by the intensity of such praises to endless questions, immemorial sorrows, blemished weaknesses… we wander…
Mesmerized by Dame Pandora’s voice, who sings in her native tongue (except “Abre los ojos”, in Spanish), a nostalgic ensemble of grieving conductors retain all that was meant to close the darkened chapter that awaits us all, thus delivering a melancholic painting that seems to dwell far beyond our own mortality…
Eliane and Marguerite gently touch their violins as whispering angels… Arkdae fills sadness with sorrow, playing guitars and keyboards as Hylgaryss, also on the latter, fills sorrow with sadness… Sombre Cÿr goes deeper into the casted tone that brings our cries with his bass and percussion…
We may feel, just by listening to “Laissez moi mourir”, that they intend to elevate our spirit into the vast unknown, to let us dance into the spiral web that forms the Universe, for it is a song that tends to gather all our energy into a never ending dance… Nevertheless, the translation falls in “Let me die” and it is a tale about a near death experience, about someone that feels more alive than ever, released by all the straps that confide the spirit into the carnal world, only to discover, in due time, that there are those that wish to save her…
I see no reason to bring into the limelight those songs that fascinated me the most… This is a masterpiece for the darkest night only and the parcels that make it a whole have its importance… Each of them has their meaning… Each of them seduces me… and none is more painful than awakening to reality and its radiance…
This release comes as a book format, having the original lyrics and a translation into English, which only serves to those non – French readers to understand. In my opinion, if Dame Pandora sung in this language; it would pale the enthralling aspect of these compositions from Dark Sanctuary. Afterall, French, having its roots in Latin, proves to be a very romantic language…
The booklet has a great deal of marvellous illustrations created by Alyz Tale which depicts the sombre touch of all that confides within the vast realm of those that died… If there’s any resting place far more inviting than a cemetery, far more inviting than a mother’s womb… it is Death! Here, we are diminished from all that caused our suffering… Here, we are welcomed to the vastness that exulted harmony
If you never knew what solitude and misery really meant, just delve into the uttered and sighing hymns of a raining night… and let a reverie come down into you… This is Dark Sanctuary’s wounded memories… The desolation of the soul where we are lost…
