Your Shapeless Beauty “My Swan Song”

Misanthropy is surely not a disease of the body but of the soul… A maddened state surrounded by the greyish walls of sadness that prevails at each and every moment… A confused display of tears and desolation mingled with a hopeless stare at the world… A vindicating retreat from all that corrupts a pale harmony… A gloomier attempt to spare our own death from this so feeble Life… Our own swan song while wandering alone…
Spreading it’s sorrowful wings from a, not so long ago, underrated country, France, Your Shapeless Beauty takes us into a journey of despair and suicide, a weary heart’s miserable attempt to conquer a place within shadows…
Being this their second Cd, it reflects a more mature development veiling us with such diverse genres within Metal. From the very first seconds the cd starts playing, one is captured by the majesty of a corrosive Death/Black which is afterwards shaded by an unforgiving melancholy.
Technicality represents a great deal and YSB delivers the perfect chemistry between chaos and order, a justifiable purchase for all Doom/Death lovers. If My Dying Bride sits on the throne of Anguish and Despair, Your Shapeless Beauty doesn’t fail to be noticed as the French nostalgic followers. Anyway, a certain closeness to other conceituated bands like Graveworm, Emperor and Arcturus simply enriches their sound and prepares the path for even more development on further releases to come.
The recording at Dru Nemeton studio was done by Alexis Phélipot and is transparent yet voracious, audible yet powerful. The only criticism is the fact that the guitars are so high that when the vocalist uses clean vocals they are barely audible. Nevertheless, the fact is that we are soon convinced that this is a work of pure genius, a masterpiece within Doom.
If you wish to occupy the space between chaos and order with emptiness and regret, spare not the chance to die… Anyway, whatever means used to achieve it, don’t go away before taking a glance at “My Swan Song”. This is more than recommended!!!
