Trail of Tears “ Profoundemonium “

When Theatre of Tragedy released their debut Cd, they hardly could have guessed that they would influence severals bands that were to come, with their, at that time, unique sound. Afterall, we have now Tristania, The Sins of Thy Beloved, Silentium, Trail of Tears among many others... It’s the latter, and their 2nd effort, that this review is all about!
Giving a more structured step after the release of their debut “ Disclosure in red “, we hear a band that is more mature and confident on their musical skills, although there’s always comparisons with the other TOT...
Helena L. Michaelsen ( leaving after the recording of the Cd and being replaced by Cathrine Paulsen ) conducts us through an eerie landscape of buried emotions ( there are moments when Helena resembles a bit Dominion’s vocalist which is a great contrast to her other “ sweeter “ vocals ) that seem to grasp a breath of haunted air engulfed by the deep – throating vocals of Ronny Thorsen as the mechanical forces behind Trail of Tears’s music fills the minutes that are portrayed on the Cd with a surreal atmosphere that at one time grows into a war zone storm and the other falls carried by the angelic coldness that is embebed on that lake of tears called sadness...
You may say that it’s just another Death/Doom/Goth band yet aren’t we all diferent from each others, yet equals? Don’t we cry, smile, become angry, love, hate??? This may not be too much original but it seems that is something that comes from their souls and not some cheap attempt to attract certain followers! Yet, another good Cd to have on your shelf when you’re on a more softer kind of mood...
