Nifelheim (2000)

1- Hail to all... Well, first, I must confess my ignorance towards your band although I’ve read some reviews about some of your previous releases during the years... Has it been very hard achieving a certain respect on the underground? What is your point of view toward the underground nowadays?
I think we have got some respect, especially from the ones that has been in the scene the longest time, which I think is an honour. Today there are too many shit bands and all of them have got a record deal and that of course leads to ignorance of all bands in the end.

2- Your third Cd appeared to me as something epic, claustrophobic, somewhat abnormal and grotesque... Really a creeping and insane wound at those marvellous and joyful bands of nowadays... For those who never heard you, who do you discriminate as your closest influences in metal and outside it? In which do you inspire to creat a Nifelheim song?
Our closest musical influences are bands like Treblinka, Bathory, Iron Maiden, Expulsion(old), Venom, Death ss, Black Hole, and so on.But mostly it's just the darkness from our morbid minds that demands violence which creates Nifelheim's music.

3- Is there a concept behind “ Servants of Darkness “ or it’s only nine fucking bestial songs with an individual theme for each? What are your sourch of inspiration at a lyrical level?
I think you could say it is just nine fucking bestial songs from hell.

4– During your career you were lucky enough to be involved with many labels and release your material in differente audio formats... What happened between you and Necropolis, the label for which you released two cds? How the deal with Black Sun emmerged? Will you release any more cds for them?
We left Necropolis because they are thieves+idiots. We signed to black sun because they are neither too small or too big for Nifelheim, we got a good deal and they are situated in the same city as ourselves, which fits us perfectly.

5- How do you see your evolution as musicians and individuals since the beginning of Nifelheim? What is your life and death philosophy? Have you stick, throughout the years, to the ideals you had back then, or do you think you have given one step further to gain an individual sound and belief far from what one may gain from other bands of the style?
We almost haven't changed anything at all since we started. We had most things clear in our minds from the beginning so I see no reason for changes, also we had an individual sound when we started and I see no reasons to change that either.

6- What have been the underground’s reactions to your previous releases? Do you think the majority of the underground will fully appreciate this new one?
The reactions has been good for both albums I must say, even though trends make some human scum change their minds. I don't know what people will think about "servants of darkness",
but I think it's our rawest and best release. Only for true black metalists.

7- As I have only the promo, tell me who will take care of the lay – out for the Cd? What it will be like?
I don´t fucking really know what it will be like. We have had a lot of trouble with the layout. First one guy did the layout together with me and Hellbutcher then suddenly his computer broke totally and another guy started to do a new layout, also with trouble, like photos disappearing and a hell lot of more .We are always surrounded by trouble so I don´t know how it'll be. I guess you´ll see when it comes out..

8- Give us a brief statement about the recording days for your new cd... Are you completely satisfyed with the production being it raw and very hard? Was it difficult over there ( for both parts... hehehe ) or didn’t you encountered any problems?
We recorded it at Maestro Musik and I really like being there. They even have a bar there now with a lot of booze and beer! Anyway the recording went pretty good, we had some problems with the drum sound ( especially the snare ) and also I also think that the sound went just a little bit too "dry" at some parts. but still I think it kicks ass like hell.

9- What is a “ normal “ day and night for you? I gather you have to work as it is too hard to maintain a band like yours... Anyway, when we have one’s soul in it...
There is no normal day and night for us and we don't work. It's only nifelheim /metal that rules.

10- Will you ever wander through experimentalism in Nifelheim or do you have any other projects just for that?
We will probably not experiment very much in Nifelheim. Sometime we will probably do some real hyper speed tracks but also some even more "old school" styled stuff like obscure heavy/black metal. But I'm sure our main sound always will be pretty much the same.

11 What is a typical Nifelheim’s concert? What was the most bizzarre event that happened to you while on tour? Tell us about your forthcoming tour... Will Portugal be able to catch you live?
We haven't played live ever because we are cursed with very much trouble ,both with guitarists and drummers. and we definitly don't want to do some ordinary gigs like all others. We must chrush!!
Right now we are missing one guitarist but we have got a new drummer who wants to play live (demon the old drummer totally refused to play live) so hopefully we can do some gigs rather soon.

12- Do you think that image is as important as music or you don’t think it has anything to do? I mean, if the image is great and the music sucks, damn, what the hell are those people doing for art?
I care more about bands philosophy than image. Bad image and bad music mostly goes hand in hand ,the same with the opposite.

13- Well, maybe I’ve run out of ideas, so I’ll finnish this for now... Thanks for your answers and keep holding graveyard’s eternal eerie light around you... Anyway, do you have any more acid arguments to deliver to the undergound?
DIE!!!
